I spend a lot of time talking to my grand-children on video calls at the moment so I do praise God for that technology! But it is not the same as being able to give them a big hug. As I thought about that I sent them a message with this reflection. I thought might help you too since we are all children of God 🙂
I am so glad to be able to talk to people on video calls. And I am thankful to God that I can connect with Him too. But it is not the same as giving Him a big hug! I think God feels like that sometimes when we get so busy with life. We throw up a prayer, or read a quick bible verse, or listen to a worship song in the car, and they are all good things. But we forget to stop and give God a big hug!
It is a bit hard to hug someone you can’t see but if you take a moment to be still and focus on Jesus, then you learn to feel his embrace of you. Maybe you could try that today. Ask your Mummy or Daddy or care-giver to help you – fast from fidgeting! – and sit still with Jesus. I know some grown-ups that might need you help to do it for themselves too!
Sit and look at a candle, or a beautiful flower, or watch the clouds sail by – anything that helps you to be still and connect with Jesus. Then let yourself relax and just be still. As you sit still think about Jesus sitting next you and giving you a big cuddly hug, and as you practice doing this, you might even be able to sense God’s heartbeat as Jesus draws you into His embrace. Remember that you can only feel someone’s heartbeat when you are snuggled up close with them, and I think that is how close God wants us to be to Him today, and every day.
“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit you way to the Lord; trust in Him and He WILL do this.” Psalm 37:5
