Well friends, many of you will be familiar with the fallout from the Hurricane at the end of September. We fortunately made it through without any issues…just a loss of connectivity for several days. But many communities south and east of us (more up in the mountains) were devastated by the winds and flooding. A friend of mine is a pastor in Asheville, NC and lives in nearby Weaverville. He told me on Monday that his town “looks like a war zone.”
While it’s certainly not the only thing we can, prayer is also not the least thing we do! Jesus cares for all of these communities, and when we pray, we invite him into the hurt and heartbreak. Of course, in one sense, he’s already there. But in another way, it’s a conscious recognition on our part that it’s not up to us to “fix” everything. We couldn’t individually if we tried. Instead, we can trust that he knows a lot of people and has control of all the resources needed to rebuild and aid in the recovery effort. We hold by this maxim that’s been so foundational for our ministry – “God comes where he’s wanted.” So if you will, join me in praying for God’s presence and power in the towns and communities across our region.
