He Makes Everything Beautiful

One of my favourite things to do in winter is to go for a big long walk, all wrapped up in freezing but sunny weather. The frosty ground crunches beneath your feet, the sky is a clear pale blue, you can see your breath every time you exhale, and even though you are all wrapped up in a big coat, hat scarf and gloves your nose still gets all cold and pink. Obviously winter in northern England is fairly mild…and damp!

Every now and then there is a gem of a morning where the frost forms beautiful patterns, it seems to outline each leaf with glittering diamonds and decorate the car windows with unique patterns that will never be repeated.

Recently as I stepped out of the house one morning it was one of those gems. I was amazed by the beauty of the glittering grass and the feathery frost patterns on the car. It occurred to me that frost is a very basic thing…after all it is just solid water and yet it can be so so beautiful. It reminded me of the verse in Ecclesiastes 3 (v11a)

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.”
