For us, 2024 ended with exhaustion and chickenpox (3 children over 3 weeks!) However, as we welcomed in the New Year we were rejoicing in the faithfulness of God through every season of the previous year. Although I wish that we could reset ourselves as easily as we reset the calendar at the start of the year, I know how much I would miss out on if I had more energy!
2025 began with us relying on the Lord’s strength and energy and with this we see and sing of the goodness of God everyday. Malachi (5), Ezra (3) and Josiah (11 mths) continue to draw us into the presence of our Father as they see the world through His eyes and sing to the Lord a new song (or the same songs on repeat!) everyday. They love the Word, turning to their Bibles when they can’t sleep or want to have a really long story time (how can you say no to reading more of God’s Word?!) Every time they have a bump, or see an ambulance or are feeling a bit ‘giggly’ inside the first thing they say is, “Let’s pray”. They are still singing “Hark the Herald,”“Oh come all ye faithful,” and “Let us adore him,” and sometimes a line from each as a song mashup! And no matter how many times I tell them they are Christmas songs, I always receive the answer, “Why?!” Why indeed! Hark, let us keep sharing the Good News. Let us be faithful and come again and again to a place of adoration.
My desire for this year is to love God as much as they do, to yearn for the Word as they do and to be challenged to pray in every circumstance as they do.
I am excited to see what God has in-store for Inspire for Kids this year. I have now completed the pre-publication edition of a new family devotional for Lent. It is available for you to trial for us this year if you are willing to give us feedback. Contact us if would like to trial the Lenten devotional: [email protected]
I have also been working on a series of table-mats to aid table-time family discipleship. My boys have been the guinea pigs for family fellowship band and we have been using these table-mats as tools to explore the Way of Life questions like, “Where have I seen God?” The boys have loved them so much they have now designed their own! If you would like to help us trial this resource get in touch: [email protected]
I have also been praying over how to encourage house fellowships to benefit from the wonder of inter-generational fellowship. I am encouraged that the Lord has already brought a number of people into the conversations about where God is already at work in this area. I would love your thoughts and questions about what do, or don’t do, and what might be helpful resources for children and families in your house fellowship. And if you have children in your house fellowship already, I would like some input about their experiences. You could use our interactive worksheet to help you.
