On Saturday morning, we had a visitor come to our House Fellowship. I’d met him through mutual connections and we’ve had some really good conversations around discipleship and mission and the church. Incidentally, he and his wife are deacons at a large church in our area (that I interviewed with in the spring but didn’t take the job!). He shared with me that he and his wife had been talking and thinking a lot about house churches and smaller communities. So I invited him to “taste and see”.
So….back to Saturday…I’ll paraphrase his testimony here: “Over the last few years, I’ve been really studying the Sermon on the Mount and trying to internalize Jesus’ teaching here. This morning, I was reading from Dallas Willard’s book The Divine Conspiracy. Specifically, I started Chapter 7 entitled “A Community of Prayerful Love”. It’s been such a blessing for me to read about that kind of community at 6:30 and then actually SEE it at 9:30.”
I loved that description personally and appreciated the reminder of the witness our community serves!
