Today there is a general election in the UK when the country chooses a new government. In the USA the race for the Presidential elections in November might pause for the parades to celebrate American Independence Day. In other parts of the world, leaders are negotiating over war torn countries, facing the challenges of natural disasters, or navigating man-made consequences of political systems.
In the midst of the chaos in our world today, so many leaders are too accommodated to the wider culture, too lost to secular pluralism, too weakened by political correctness, and too afraid to make the kind of kingdom-like decisions that might make a real difference.
They need Jesus!
And we need to set an example of what it means to be a radical disciple like Jesus, seeking more of God and his righteousness, and praying in the power of the Spirit for the Sovereignty of God to be manifest in our lives, and in the lives of the leaders in our world.
Lord God, King of the Universe,
we pray for our world leaders,
our country’s leaders,
our church leaders,
ourselves.
Give them, and us:
extreme love that serves the needs of others before self,
extreme joy that overflows with hope,
extreme peace that inspires conversational relationships,
extreme patience that compels perseverance for righteousness,
extreme kindness that inspires more acts of kindness,
extreme goodness that demonstrates the power of the One who is Goodness himself,
extreme faithfulness that proves the presence of God,
extreme humility that pours out grace upon grace,
extreme self-control that cultivates godly disciplines.
Lord God, make Your Kingdom come
and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Amen.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. 2 Chronicles 14:14-15
