We were climbing in the Welsh mountains enjoying the newly emerging heather.
As we rounded a corner there was a wild pony and her foal. This baby pony must only have been a day or two old as it wobbled on its tiny legs to stay close to its mother. They let us get close enough to take a photo and as we stood and watched them I marvelled at the magnificence of God’s creation in its natural setting.
We pass by beautiful horses all the time in Kentucky where they are bred, beautified, trained and traded for sport and pleasure. Although God still creates those horses, somehow the wild mountain ponies seemed so much more glorious. They are there entirely by the grace of God. Inextricably connected to the earth that sustains them. Living in constant communion with their Creator all the days of their life.
I am so thankful for the fellowship bands and house fellowships I belong to. It is they that help me to be more like the wild ponies. They help me to recognise the grace of God in my life; to find my sustenance in staying connected to Him; and to live more faithfully in constant communion with Him.
The wild ponies probably never have to remember these words because they live them every day! May it be so for us.
One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple.
For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock.
