I know you will have heard of Jesus walking on water but have you ever heard of someone sleeping in a buggy floating on water?!
No, neither have I. After recent rains our local pond is nearly flooded and I couldn’t resist taking the picture above of our daughter apparently floating on the water! (Don’t worry she was actually on a jetty just a few inches below the waters surface).
Last weekend I was taking part in delivering some in-person training in the UK. For the first time in over 2 years we were able to travel 3 hours, gather with multiple people from multiple households, some of which had traveled a few hours themselves, and share face to face conversations and pray with people. We were actually able to reach out and anoint their heads with oil. It was a huge privilege, and at times pretty miraculous, but that is another story for another Beacon of Hope.
One of the exercises we got people to engage with was writing down a big list of the things that the Gospels tell us Jesus did. We came up with: being alone to pray, sharing food with others, feeding 5,000, forgiving sins, meeting people where they are and walking on water. The group we were with enjoyed reeling of a big long list of miracles and eventually I said ‘Isn’t it interesting how many miracles Jesus did and we are called to imitate him?’. I found myself advising the people there to not try walking on water at home but I stopped myself mid sentence. Actually we should be doing miracles!! Not because we want to look good and be famous for being able to walk on water but because God is telling us to, and we are called to do it with him.
In John 14:12, it says we will do greater things than Jesus. If he walked on water, what are we going to do!? One of the questions we encourage you to consider when reflecting on your life as a disciple is, ‘Am I following the Spirit’s lead?’ If the Spirit told you to pray for healing, would you? If he asked you to step out and do something radical that the world might see as ridiculous, would you? If the Holy Spirit asked you to walk on water, would you?
Rachel is part of a Missioner team who recently did some in-person training. They were all challenged to step out of their comfort zones and God blessed the weekend hugely!
I tell you this timeless truth:
The person who follows me in faith,
believing in me,
will do the same mighty miracles that I do
—even greater miracles than these because I go to be with my Father!

The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep my faith will stand
