On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS
Revelation 19:16
On Monday 19 September 2022 people around the world were celebrating the life of Queen Elizabeth II as they mourned her death. As the world’s longest reigning monarch she was respected and admired for her life of duty and service. But it was her faith in God that gave her hope and strength each day and she often expressed that in public.
When she was 13 years old, the young princess Elizabeth shared a poem: “Go out into the darkness, and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light, and safer than a known way.” The King went on to quote this poem in his 1939 Christmas speech to encourage Britons facing the challenges of a second war.
In 2002, she said: “I know just how much I rely on my faith to guide me through the good times and the bad. Each day is a new beginning. I know that the only way to live my life is to try to do what is right, to take the long view, to give of my best in all that the day brings, and to put my trust in God… I draw strength from the message of hope in the Christian gospel.”
You can read lots more tributes to the Queen, and testimonies to her faith, in other places. Below you will find a few links from organisations that Inspire is connected to.
Whatever you think about the kings and queens of this world, we hope that you will join us today in celebrating THE King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We give thanks for Queen Elizabeth II and for the faith she shared as she served The King. May we choose to follow Jesus’ way of life today so that we will serve him all our days as King and Lord of our lives.
