New Rhythms

Remembering God in the small things

As the new year began, we started a new breakfast time rhythm of prayer and bible reading. Inspired from my own childhood, and the simple record of the prayers we prayed every morning, we have begun to journal our prayer requests too. Each morning we look back and see not if, but how God has answered our prayers. Then God gets a sticker!

I have be blessed again and again to hear how Malachi (age 3) is growing into these prayers, and for those precious prayers or comments that really capture my heart. I write down next to our prayer request.

On 31st January we were praying for a few people to get better, and Malachi declared with total confidence, “God is going to make them all better. Ah that’s exciting!”

As we have reflected back on January, we have been overjoyed to see how many stickers God has received for so many answered prayers, whether they took a few hours, a day, or the whole month. Our prayers are simple, plain and ordinary, but God’s answers are extra-ordinary. God takes what is simple, and shows us glory! God doesn’t just promises us big miracles, but promises us everyday encounters (Psalm 139.1-12)

Lord you are perfect in all of your ways,
When we call you answer.
You hear every prayer we pray.
Those we shout, those we cry, those we whisper, and those we keep in our hearts.
Jesus, open my eyes so to see you with eyes like a child,
Teach me to rejoice over every answered prayer;
In praise and thanks giving, giving glory to God!
AMEN

These songs remind us of God’s faithfulness:

Faithful, you are, yes
Faithful forever you will be
Faithful, you are, yes you are
All your promises are yes and Amen
I will rest in your promises
My confidence is your faithfulness

As you call me deeper still
Into love, love, love
You’re a Good, Good Father
It’s who you are, it’s who you are
And I’m loved by you
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
