Praise Him

This past week our house fellowship was focusing on the spiritual discipline of worship and praise. It’s not often on the list disciplines but it sometimes a takes a lot of discipline to actually do it!

In Psalm 8: 2 it tell us, “Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.”WE are God’s children and through our praises God demonstrates His power against the powers and principalities.

So even if you don’t feel much like singing today, let God bring to mind one thing that you can praise Him for, and see where the Spirit leads your praises. And if you are finding it hard to grasp even one thing here are a few reminders highlighted in Psalm 92 and in the song ‘You Have Provided.’

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to the Most High.
It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning,
your faithfulness in the evening,
accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, a harp,
and the melody of a lyre.
You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me!

I sing for joy because of what you have done.
O Lord, what great works you do!
And how deep are your thoughts.
Only a simpleton would not know,
and only a fool would not understand this:
Though the wicked sprout like weeds
and evildoers flourish,
they will be destroyed forever.

But you, O Lord, will be exalted forever.
Your enemies, Lord, will surely perish;
all evildoers will be scattered.
But you have made me as strong as a wild ox.
You have anointed me with the finest oil.
My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
my ears have heard the defeat of my wicked opponents.
But the godly will flourish like palm trees
and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
They flourish in the courts of our God.
Even in old age they will still produce fruit;
they will remain vital and green.
They will declare, “The Lord is just!
He is my rock!
There is no evil in him!”

Psalm 92, NLT

Even though I walk through the shadow of death
I know You’re gonna finish what You first began
And even though I’m caught in the snare of despair
You run into my rescue and You keep me near

I’ve never known Your word to be unfaithful
I’ve never seen one of Your saints forsaken
My hope is sure, constant in every season
All I have needed You have provided

Even when the light is dim or darkness is deep
You’re with me in the presence of my enemies
And even though I cannot see the road up ahead
Your voice will guide the steps I haven’t traveled yet

You’re the Garden in the desert, You’re the Water in the rock
You’re the Mercy sent from heaven, You’re the Light that pierced the dark
You’re the Gift and You’re the Giver, You’re the only source of life
All I am needing, You will provide

You’re the Father of compassion who will love at any cost
You’re the God who still surprises us in ways we’d never thought
You’re my Help and You’re my healer, You’re the well that won’t run dry
All I am needing, You will provide
