What Do You See?

We have a book called Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?* On each page it asks the question “… what do you see?” and then tells us what we can see on the page. For example: “Brown Bear, Brown Bear what do you see? I see a red bird looking at me”. And so it goes on.

I use the rhythm as a way of helping my 9 mth old to see more of God. And in the process it helps me to see God too!

After three or four reads through – an occupational hazard with a young child! – we begin to change the words.

“Malachi, Malachi what do you see? I see God’s trees waving at me”. “Malachi, Malachi, what do you see? I see God’s cows, mooing at me”. “Malachi, Malachi, what do you see? I see God’s flowers, growing for me”. And so we go on with the things we see as we go along, especially on our daily walk.

On our walk the other day, Malachi fell asleep half way round our route, and I found myself asking, “Tabitha, Tabitha, what do you see?” It was like God whispering in my ear and giving me the opportunity to see Him everywhere.

Open my eyes, oh LORD and let me see, your wonders, your goodness, oh glorious day. AMEN
