At a recent Inspire Missioner Gathering the song ‘Heart of worship’ by Matt Redman came to mind. The chorus says:
“I’ll bring you more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what you have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
Your looking into my heart
I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about you
All about you, Jesus
I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about you
All about you, Jesus”
We can sometimes make things so complicated and overwork things. But if we come back to the heart of what God wants and make it all about Him, we can’t go far wrong!
Similarly, the song ‘Tethered to your heart’ by Phil Wickham has a repeating phrase in the bridge:
“Draw me closer,
Take me deeper,
I want to be where you are.
I want to be where you are.”
Again, the emphasis in this bridge is not on us doing things or striving to be better but being drawn in by God to be where He is. If we are where He is then we are in the right place.
